A handy little list of bookish releases from tomorrow to December that I am super excited for, including new works from Brandon Sanderson, Scott Lynch, JK Rowling, Sarah J Maas and Leigh Bardugo.
Elantris has it all; religious fanaticism, political intrigue, compelling characters, moral ambiguity and, of course, an amazing magic system. Based on the drawing of symbols, Elantris was the city of Gods where even the walls, buildings and ground shone with magic. Until one day ten years ago when it simply began to rot… Continue reading “Elantris by Brandon Sanderson – A Review”
I don’t normally set a tbr list as I tend to feel that once I’ve commited myself to it, I can’t read anything else. I enjoy the freedom of picking up whatever I fancy. This month though, I am so excited about all of these that I think I’ll stick to it quite happily! Not necessarily in this order though. Continue reading “June TBR”
What can I say? I really, really enjoyed this. Brandon Sanderson proves once again that he is the master of worldbuilding. It is no easy task to create a whole world complete with a well-developed magic system, different cultures, opposing religions and political intrigue – not to mention brilliant three-dimensional, complex characters to boot! AND all in one standalone novel. Continue reading “Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson| a review”
January was a bit of a mixed bag, some great reads, some surprises and some disappointments. I’ve managed to read a couple short story collections, fairytale retellings, fantasy epics and a 1930s crime classic so I’m quite pleased with how varied I’ve been. Continue reading “January Wrap Up”
2015 was a really great year for me reading-wise. It was my first full year out of full time education. The year I could finally read all those books I’d been hauling from university halls to my first home. Weirdly, the first 6 months I was in a bit of a slump. I read some really great books but it just took me foreeeever to get through them. Around June, I remembered I LOVED fantasy. I remembered that Game of Thrones was fantasy. I remembered that other fantasy series exist and I should probably try to read them. I remembered that I loved YA. I hadn’t read a YA book since I was a teen. I soon remedied the fantasy/YA shaped hole in my life. I finally had my reading groove back. I devoured books again. And it made me a much happier person. I’d forgotten how much I’d missed the ‘it’s midnight and I need to get up in 5 hours but I can’t put down this book’ feeling; that feeling of escapism after a really crappy day. And finally, I discovered some amazing authors who have become my new favourites! I am very excited to read more of their work in 2016; their back-catalogues and new releases alike! Continue reading “2015 Faves – Authors”
Hello ~ Bonjour ~ Hola ~ Ciao !
I am soo glad to be back online. Since moving into our new home in November, BT have deprived us from internet access for over three months. As you can imagine, I have read quite a few books in that time! Instead of trying to review them all in a mad rush I thought I’d do a list (i love lists, this is the dream) with my Goodreads rating. There’ll be a few more wrap ups/2015 reads related post so I can catch up and then normal service will resume. Thanks for sticking with me! The Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson, published by Gollancz in the UK
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
Brandon Sanderson is a master storyteller. His world building is extraordinary, his character development is astounding. There are not enough superlatives in the world for me to describe how good this series is. The first book in the series, The Final Empire, had been sitting in my tbr pile for a while but it was #mistbornmondays that gave me the push I needed to finally dive into this epic trilogy. Mistborn Mondays was created by Lucy Richardson over at The Book Belle on Youtube when she began hosting The Great Mistborn Readlong in preparation for Sanderson’s new release Shadows of Self, the fifth book in the Mistborn world that comes out later this month. I shouldn’t have waited so long.
